Head Start in the Tasting Room by Crush Crusader

I was very glad to be hired in the tasting room for a month prior to the ’08 harvest. Not only did I need the money, but I was craving the contact with Folie a Deux. I wanted to be a part of the winery any way I could and get a head start, before I got into the production side and lent my helping hand in the ‘08 vintage.

The short time served at the tasting room opened my eyes to the kind of people that I would be working with for awhile. I learned so much from the people around me and became great friends with them. My time here at the tasting room is coming to a close already, and now I must get myself prepared for a much more physically and mentally challenging environment.

My days will begin at 3:30 am. I need 30 minutes to get ready, eat, and pack up for work before I have to drive an hour to be there on time at 5am. Oh boy…..here we go.

So my task is simple. I will work harvest for winemaker Joe Shirley and crew to create fine wines for Folie a Deux Winery, located in the Napa Valley. You may have enjoyed these wines before, now I will share with you the grueling tasks involved in harvesting and producing wines of this quality. I plan on taking you on an insider’s journey throughout my day-to-day tasks around the winery and wherever I will be working. Think of it as the Real World Napa Valley… for wine lovers.

Is Folie a Deux ready for me??

Is Folie a Deux ready for me??

I am looking forward to learning and sharing my experiences with you during this year’s harvest. This is a great opportunity for me and you to see what it is truly like to work 10-12 hour days, 6 days a week, for 3-4 months. So let me ask you one simple question, Are You Ready??? I am.

Hello wine world!

Yes, I am the humble infamous intern. For all of you that may not know who I am, my name is William Goebel, a recent college grad from the Sonoma State University. I studied Wine Business Strategies under some of the best college professors in my four years there. I share a huge passion for wine, and I wish to continue my wine education through experiences in the wine industry. In the future, I wish to join the few in studying for my masters in Wine Business Strategies at Sonoma State University. I feel the need to learn more and more about the industry, so what better way than to start from the ground up. Harvest…..Here I come.
